Founder Jayson has always been a giant Rolling Stone fan. While smoking meat and listening to their music, he watched the flames of his fire licking the smoker’s woods like 👅 thinking that’s really a good name for a smoke house/ BBQ joint.

“I have always associated the grassroot sounds of American Blues with the grassroot cooking of Texas BBQ. In music, seven notes on the guitar are called a Lick and often guitar blues pickers call a Lick that they like, a Hot Lick.

In Texas BBQ, I relate that term to the essential 7 items that are the Texas Licks of a Texas BBQ. They are: smoked Brisket, smoked Ribs, smoked Pork Butt, smoked Sausage, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, BBQ Beans.
While there are additional notes in a song, there are also additional items at a BBQ.

However, the essential 7 items are the essential items at a Texas BBQ and of the Hotlicks of Texas BBQ and they never change on any Texas BBQ Restaurant menu. We are proud of our Licks and call them Hot Licks. We are ready to serve you our Texas Hotlicks”
